Quick answer: Hang adult hooks about 60–66 inches high and kids’ hooks around 40 inches, give each person two hooks, and keep a bench and boot spot directly below. A freestanding tree coat rack works where you can’t drill into the wall.

Laying out a ranch-house mudroom wall
